Why Clonakilty?
A Hidden Treasure
We can keep banging on about towns with charm, beauty, cleanliness, and interesting things to see and do but Clonakilty has them all in spades. The reason is the locals created a bit of heaven on earth. It is truly a charming, very cosmopolitan gold nugget in the beautiful west Cork countryside.
The buildings are stunningly painted in all the colours of the rainbow. Hanging flower baskets adorn their facades. Pieces of weird and wonderful bits of art add to the wonderment.
Always something on
The town is renowned for its great food, great music, great people and great craic. As they say in that part of the world, “there’s always something on in Clon” It’s not an exaggeration to describe it as the almost perfect Foodie town. Restaurants catering for all, from fresh sea food specials to the humble sausage roll and chips. Open air artisan food markets using locally produced food are only too happy to offer a tasting experience before you dip your snout in the trough and all that before exploring the activity options in the area. There are lots of mad things to get stuck into both indoors and out. If up for a challenge and the weather is good, pop out to Inchydoney beach and run bare foot on the silver sand. The pubs are brilliant with lots of them selling food and you can be sure that they will be heaving with trad music during the day.
Location
Clonakilty is west of Bandon on the main road to Baltimore from Cork. We always recommend Clonakilty as a fantastic small town hen if the bride wants to stay down South, or is coming from Cork. It's one of those places where you might not be far away, but you feel like you are.
