The role of the Maid of Honour

The role of the Maid of Honour

07/11/2019

So you’ve been asked to be the Maid of Honour for one of your bestie’s Wedding but you’re not sure what that means? First off, congratulations! Secondly, don’t fret because we’re going to help you out and make sure you live up to the name and make the Bride glad she chose you.

The Maid of Honour plays a very important role both in the build up to the Wedding, and on the actual Wedding Day. It’s your job to make sure the Bride feels as comfortable as possible from start to finish and we’re about to tell you what to do in order to make that as easy as possible for everyone.

1. Be her rock to lean on.
No matter how close the Bride and Groom may be, there are a number of things that only women can understand. That’s where you come in! There’s going to be a lot of stressful situations in the build up to the wedding and on the big day and you should be there for the Bride to help her out and let her know that everything is going to be okay. Be a shoulder for her to lean on.

2. Take lead on the organisation of the Hen Party with the other bridesmaids.
Every Bride needs one last hurrah with her gals before the big day and this is your opportunity to provide just that, together with the other bridesmaids. Break away from tradition, get creative, and try to set the bar for future hen parties. But make sure to consider everyone’s budget. Not everyone can afford flashy weekends away so be inclusive of everyone’s needs.

3. Help with the wedding dress.
The wedding day is going to be the best day in the Bride’s life and she’s going to want to feel like a Queen. That’s where the dress comes in. Help her to pick The One. Be honest about how it looks but also be careful to approach it in the right way. Once the dress is chosen, it then falls on you to help her in and out of it on the wedding day...even on a trip to the bathroom. Teamwork!

As well as these very important roles, a Maid of Honour can prove she’s the right person for the role by helping the bride in emergencies such as:

- bringing extra hair clips
- help with the wedding planning (if required)
- keep her hydrated (the dress can get pretty warm during the day!)
- keep the other bridesmaids organised
- calm the Bride’s nerves the night before

The role of being Maid of Honour is a massive privilege and shows that the Bride trusts you to play a big part in one of the biggest days in her life. Show her that she chose the right person.

Remember to enjoy it because it might be the only time you’ll ever be asked. It might seem like a lot of pressure but remember that she believes in you and knows you’re the right person!
