This week’s query comes in from Emma whose never organised a hen party before

“Hi Claire, so my best friend just asked me to be her maid of honour, couldn’t be happier! Of course the first thing that popped into my mind is ‘I have to give her a class send-off’, but, truth be told I know absolutely NOTHING about organising a hen party, I’ve never even been on one! I haven’t a clue where to even start! HELP ME!!”

Claire’s Advice;
Hi Emma, first of all big congrats on being selected as your best friend’s maid of honour! Being a maid of honour can be an extremely difficult task but with the right preparation you can be a pro in no time.

The hen party is not just a night out with the girls before the wedding, the hen party symbolises the bride to be’s last few days a single lady, (que dancing to Beyonce)! First off you should arrange to meet up with the other bridesmaids to start brainstorming. Just because you’re the maid of honour doesn’t mean you shouldn’t delegate some of the responsibility around. It’s up to you whether you want to get the bride to be involved but it goes without saying the bride should not have to lift a finger in organising the hen! Asking the bride to be for a list of people to invite though is perfectly fine to make sure that she and no one else is disappointed.

Activities are key to any hen party, whether you are going to Mullingar or Marbella the activity you do for the hen can make or break the weekend, so choose wisely. If the bride wants a relaxing hen go for a day at the spa, if she wants an adrenaline rush karting could be for her!

After the activity most groups will go for a bite to eat, choose a favourite restaurant of hers or one you’ve heard great things about. After that it’s off to the pub to celebrate and send the bride to be off in style!

Not all hens have to go like that though, some brides would prefer a night in with the girls or a weekend of glamping over the usual hen party. Just be sure to talk to the bride and see what she would like best to make sure that she and all the girls have the best time possible.

Between booking everything in, collecting all the money and making sure the bride is happy there is quite a lot of work that goes into organising the perfect hen party, so why not get a pro to do it for you, email info@henparty.ie for all our amazing packages!
