Cahir is a beautiful little town in South Tipperary, nestled on the banks of the River Suir. With the Cork - Dublin Motorway passing by, it's very accessible, only an hour from Cork, 2 or so from Dublin. It's also halfway between Limerick and Waterford, only a hours drive either way.
There is so much to see and do in Cahir here in peaceful South Tipperary. As we said it's easily acessible where you have a group of girls coming from different parts of the country.
Dominating the town is the enormous Cahir Castle which has been inhabited by the Butler family for the best part of 600 years. It was handed over to the State in the 1960's and is now a national monument and it is well worth a visit. It extremely well preserved and there are great views to be had from the roof. Maybe it seems a little familiar - that's because it starred in the ITV series "The Tudors" with Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
Something else that's worth a visit is the nearby Swiss Cottage, which you can walk to (only 2km) along the river. It is an ornate thatched building designed by John Nash. It was intended as a retreat from the Castle, a sort of fishing and hunting lodge. It was constructed in 1810 and has been restored in recent years by FAS.
Ok, now to food and drink, there are plenty of cafes and pubs in this small town. You can catch traditional music in some of the pubs and there are some tasty cafes. There are a couple of Indians and Chinese Restaurants.
The Galty Mountains are close by and there are some fantastic walks up there, go in a group and make sure you tell someone your route.
Visit the Michelstown Caves, only 15km away, we at henparty.ie have visited ourselves and we think this place is cool (around 12c all year around actually). The caves extend in for 3km although only 1km is open to the public. Spend an afternoon looking at the stalactites and stalagmites, do you know which is which ?? Oh yeah, don't forget to ask them to turn the lights off - you won't able to see your hand in front of your face.
Visit the Craft Gallery in the town and have a look at the work of local craftspeople - glass, ceramics, jewellery (could make a good wedding present).
There is plenty of accommodation here in Cahir - a few hotels, B&Bs and Guesthouses.
